Hay prices in Texas this week: per bale and per ton

Source: USDA AMS Texas Direct Hay Report, published Fri 2 Oct 2026, for the week ending 2 Oct 2026 (PDF). 27 price lines, all asking or offer prices this week (no confirmed trades in the report), 22 of them priced per bale. Confirmed hay volume this week: 0 tons. The report splits the state into regions (Panhandle, South); the region is in the Notes column. Texas's report is bi-weekly; it says the next one is due 16 October 2026. USDA market comment: "Compared to last report: Hay prices and demand remain good. According to the US Drought Monitor, The southern states have taken the brunt of recent drought intensification since August, which continued this past week across most of Oklahoma and Texas. Virtually no rain fell this past week in this region except for far western Texas, the Oklahoma Panhandle, and eastern Tennessee. Combined with temperatures of 6-12 degrees above average, the lack of rainfall contributed to the rapid intensifying drought. Most of central and eastern Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas are under severe, extreme, or exceptional drought classifications." For scale, USDA NASS's monthly state average for August 2026 was $144.00/ton for all hay (alfalfa $230.00, other hay $120.00; US all hay $190.00) (NASS Agricultural Prices, 29 Sep 2026). Qty is tons for per-ton rows and bales for per-bale rows. Trade and Contract rows are confirmed sales; Ask and Offer rows are quoted prices, not sales.
