Source: USDA AMS Kansas Direct Hay Report, published Fri 2 Oct 2026, for the week ending 25 Sep 2026 (PDF). 115 price lines, all confirmed trades, 15 of them priced per bale. Confirmed hay volume this week: 45,604 tons and 1,223 bales. The report splits the state into regions (North Central, Northeast, Northwest, South Central, Southeast, Southwest); the region is in the Notes column. USDA market comment: "Demand remained strong this past week as hay inventories continued to decline. Hay shipments to states experiencing more severe drought conditions remained active, further tightening supplies in some areas. Much of the state received beneficial moisture over the past week, with additional precipitation in the forecast. According to the US Drought Monitor for the week of September 24th, Most of the High Plains received beneficial rainfall, resulting in improvement to drought categories over parts of all states in the region." For scale, USDA NASS's monthly state average for August 2026 was $123.00/ton for all hay (alfalfa $127.00, other hay $105.00; US all hay $190.00) (NASS Agricultural Prices, 29 Sep 2026).
